Agua Fresca is the perfect drink for spring and summer. One of my favorites is strawberry agua fresca. Refreshing, sweet, and a little tangy from the lime juice. You can’t go wrong with this drink, it’s so good!
What Is Aguas Frescas?
Aguas Frescas is Spanish for fresh waters. This Mexican drink is made in various flavors, using blended fruit, lime juice, water, and a sweetener. Some popular flavors include strawberry, cucumber, watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple.
There are also other varieties of “aguas” which include Horchata, Agua de Jamaica, and Agua de Tamarindo. From the title of this post, you know I will be sharing my recipe for strawberry agua fresca.

How to Make Strawberry Agua Fresca
Start by adding ¾ cup of sugar and 8 cups of water to a pitcher, stir and set it aside. This will give the sugar time to dissolve so that you can do a proper taste test before adding more sugar if needed.
Next, wash the strawberries well, then remove the leaves and stems. Quarter them and add them to a blender. Add in ¼ cup of freshly squeezed lime juice.

Blend the strawberries for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Then strain the strawberry puree using a fine mesh strainer.
Add the puree to the sugar water and stir well. Taste the water and add more sugar if needed. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Pour over ice and enjoy!
Pro Tips
- Selecting good strawberries will set you up for success. Bright red and deep red strawberries are ripe and usually sweet. Strawberries with too many white or green spots may have been picked too early and tend to be sour. Also, check for bruising and mold.
- Remember that sugar takes a little bit to dissolve in the water, give it some time before adding more.
- Fruit puree will naturally sink to the bottom. Make sure to give it a quick stir every time before serving.
- Pour this drink into ice cubes and freeze. Then blend to create an agua fresca slushie.
Serving and Storing
Agua fresca is of course best when served chilled and over ice. It makes a fabulous drink to enjoy on special occasions or as part of an everyday meal. It pairs well with Mexican dishes, such as Flautas, Tacos, Tostadas, Sopes, and Fish tacos.
Serve it as part of a weekend brunch. You can totally jazz it up by substituting 2 cups of water for 2 cups of sparkling water.
It’s also a must for summer gatherings and BBQs ( in my opinion). Avoid leaving it out at room temperature for too long.
Store any leftovers in a covered pitcher, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

I know you’ll love this recipe and I hope you find many occasions to serve it this strawberry season!
