I’m always looking for different ways to flavor my coffee and dulce de leche is such a good one! It’s creamy and sweet, perfect for when you want to treat yourself to an indulgent cup of java.
What Is Dulce De Leche?
Dulce de leche translates to sweet milk candy, and that’s basically what it is. Milk is slowly heated with sugar until a nutty brown color and thick creamy texture is achieved. Oh, and did I mention that the flavor is amazing?! It is.
Not to be confused with caramel, this creamy perfection is on another level. If you’re like me you’ll want to put it on everything, including your coffee.
How To Make A Dulce De Leche Latte
Pour 4 oz of strong brewed coffee into a measuring cup. Add 1½ Tbsp of dulce de leche and stir well to combine until it completely dissolves. You may use more or less depending on how sweet you like your coffee.
Add ice cubes to a tall glass, then pour coffee mixture over the ice. Add ⅓ cup of cold milk. Pretty much any milk is fine to use, however, keep in mind that coconut milk has a strong flavor and will compete with the flavor of the dulce de leche.
Top with whipped cream and drizzle with dulce de leche if you wish. Then use a straw for easy sipping.
Enjoy!

Can I Make This Latte Lactose-Free?
Absolutely! In fact, I use La Lechera® lactose-free sweetened condensed milk. I simmer the milk on low heat, stirring frequently for about 15-20 minutes, and voila! Lactose-free dulce de leche.
It will stay in an airtight container, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Tips
~Prefer your coffee hot? No problem, just omit the ice. It tastes great either way.
~If you are using a cold brew, you will need to warm up the dulce de leche slightly so it becomes liquid-y. Then slowly drizzle into the cold brew while stirring continuously.
~If you have trouble finding dulce de leche in your area, you can make your own using sweetened condensed milk. I recommend using the stovetop method.
Just pour the sweetened condensed milk into a saucepan and place over low to medium-low heat and cook for 15-20 minutes depending on the consistency you want. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent lumps and scorching the milk.

P.S, this dulce de leche latte is also fabulous served with my Authentic Migas. Try them both and have yourself a delicious Mexican breakfast!
